5th Annual Calabash Festival Carded for July PDF Print E-mail
Brades, Montserrat, MTB - May 21, 2009 - In a celebration of culture, creativity and music, the island of Montserrat will host the 5th Annual Calabash Festival, July 19 -25, 2010. The week-long event offers a wide selection of festivities that highlights the hidden talents of local artisans and designers. Key events on this year's program include a gospel concert.

Named after the calabash fruit that was traditionally used to produce eating utensils, musical instruments and decorative items, the festival seeks to promote the destination through a range of events. This year's program includes a daily Calabash Exhibition, an adventure hike, a gospel concert, Prof. Dr. George Irish Lecture Series, a Caribbean cultural food fair, cricket match and a grand finale summer music festival.

2010 Calabash Festival Week of Activities 

18 July Sun:    Neighbourly Day   Church Service at the Anglican Church in St. John's to start the week and honour a musical icon of St. Johns.

19 July Mon:    Opening of Week of Activities at the National trust

                      Opening of Art and Calabash Exhibition

20 July Tues:    Viewing of Calabash Exhibition all week    

21 July Wed:    Prof. Dr. George Irish Lecture Series

22 July Thu:    Gospel Concert

23 July Fri:      Caribbean /Cultural Food Fair - At the Lyme, Brades with Callahoopers, & String band

24 July Sat:     Grand Finale' Summer Music Festival

                     Adventure Hike - On the Trail with Scriber

                     Regional Domino Competition,
