BRADES, Montserrat (June 10, 2010) – All four of the primary schools and
the secondary school are taking part in the Operation Clean as a
Whistle, which is an island-wide effort to clean up Montserrat.
According to a statement from Government House, which is sponsoring
the initiative in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister,
each school received a small grant from His Excellency the Governor
Peter Waterworth, to purchase cleaning materials to allow them to clean
their own school grounds and sports facilities.
The Montserrat
Secondary School students will complete their clean up this Friday,
prior to the start of their exams and the remaining schools will
complete theirs on Friday 18 June.
In addition, church youth
groups from the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Roman Catholic
Church are cleaning up parts of Salem in support of the campaign.
Monday
21 June is a national holiday in celebration of the Queen’s birthday.
It has been designated as the national clean up day. Garbage removal
nationwide will take place the following day and judging of the
best/cleanest district is on Wednesday 23 June.
